President & Chief Executive Officer

As President and Chief Executive Officer of the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies, Daniel J. Hilferty is responsible for the leadership, strategic direction, business development and operations of the companies.  Headquartered in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies is the largest organization of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, touching the lives of 6.2 million members.  With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the Medicaid population, AmeriHealth Mercy’s core products include management, administrative, pharmacy benefit, care management services and behavioral health care services.

Mr. Hilferty has more than 25 years of experience in health care, government affairs, communications and education. He was previously Senior Vice President of Corporate and Government Affairs for Mercy Health System in Southeastern Pennsylvania. Prior to his tenure at Mercy Health System, Mr. Hilferty was the Executive Director of PennPorts with the Office of Pennsylvania Governor Robert P. Casey. He managed all economic development programs and legislative relations related to the ports of Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Erie.

Mr. Hilferty has served on the Board of Medicaid Health Plans of America since 2001, and currently is Vice Chair of the Board. He is also on the Boards of the Pennsylvania Higher Education Foundation and the Higher Education Foundation. In addition, he is active in many community, business and educational organizations, including the Pennsylvania Economy League, Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce, the Pedro Arrupe Center fro Business Ethics Advisory Board, the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition, Saint Joseph’s University, the Irish Educational Development Foundation, and Drexel Neumann Academy.

Mr. Hilferty’s leadership and commitment to the community have been recognized throughout the years by a variety of organizations.  He has received the Community Leader of the Year Award from the Arthritis Foundation, the Good Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the Moments of Change Award from the Philadelphia Comprehensive Center for Fathers, and the Dennis Clark SOLAS Award from the Welcoming Center. He was inducted into the Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Hall of Fame for his many contributions to CYO groups in the parish community.  Most recently he received the Saint Joseph's University Erivan K. Haub School of Business Hall of Fame award.

Mr. Hilferty received a Master's degree in Public Administration from American University in Washington, DC, and a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Saint Joseph's University in Philadelphia.
