AmeriHealth Mercy to Present Innovative Medical
Management Model at Disease Management Congress
September 13, 2004 - Philadelphia (PA) - Gregory Preston,
MD, MBA, Chief Medical Officer and Senior Vice President, Medical
Affairs, AmeriHealth Mercy, will present on Care Coordination,
AmeriHealth Mercy's new disease management model, at the Ninth
Annual Disease Management Congress in Boston, on Tuesday,
September 21st from 10:30 am -12:00 pm, at the Hynes Convention
Center.
Preston will be speaking about AmeriHealth Mercy's Care Coordination
model, which is a new approach to medical management for the
Medicaid population. When AmeriHealth Mercy, a Medicaid managed
care health plan, performed an analysis of its high-risk members,
the results indicated that approximately 10% of those members
accounted for nearly 70% of the plan's total health care expenditures.
Additionally, predictive modeling indicated that this subgroup
would continue to experience high costs in the future. This
led to the development and implementation of the aggressive
Care Coordination Program for nearly 50,000 members, in a strategy
designed to anticipate and avoid future adverse clinical events.
With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the
Medicaid population, the AmeriHealth Mercy Family of Companies and its affiliates comprise
the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United
States, touching the lives of more than one million members
in seven states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina,
Virginia, California and Arizona.
The three-day Disease Management Congress will address the
major challenges of the disease management industry and highlight
the myriad ways that disease management programs continue to
improve the performance of health care systems.
