AmeriHealth Mercy to Present at AHIP's Medicaid Conference on Best Practices of Drug Benefit Management and Care Coordination for High Cost, High Risk Populations

September 13, 2005 - Philadelphia (PA) - AmeriHealth Mercy will showcase two of its managed care products, PerformRx, a pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), and PerforMEDSM, a care coordination program, in two presentations at America's Health Insurance Plan's (AHIP) annual Medicaid Conference, September 14-15, in Arlington, VA.

Jerry Brehany, Associate Vice President, Pharmacy Management, AmeriHealth Mercy, will present Are You At Risk? Challenges and Opportunities in Managing the Drug Benefit for High Cost Dual Eligibles, on Wednesday, September 14th from 7:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m. During the session, Brehany will share case studies and lessons learned from managing a comprehensive drug benefit for large dual eligible populations in Medicaid managed care plans using AmeriHealth Mercy's in-house PBM, PerformRx, which manages prescription drug services for more than 1 million lives, including 50,000 dual eligibles.

On Thursday, September 15th, from 9:45 a.m. - 10:45 a.m., Jane Israel, RN, Executive Director, Clinical Initiatives, AmeriHealth Mercy, will present Best Practices: Care for Chronic Illness, Disease, and Disability. This session will highlight AmeriHealth Mercy's care coordination program, PerforMEDSM, and its proactive approach to managing the needs of high risk, high cost populations. PerforMEDSM's innovative technique uses a "population management approach", a combination of predictive modeling and stratification of membership into risk groups, to blend case management, disease management, and behavioral health coordination for those members for whom it will have the greatest impact. Deborah B. Madson, Chief Operating Officer, Blue Plus; and Vice President of Government Programs, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Minnesota will speak on the panel.

With more than 20 years of experience exclusively serving the Medicaid population, AmeriHealth Mercy and its affiliates comprise the largest family of Medicaid managed care plans in the United States, touching the lives of more than 1.5 million members in eight states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Kentucky, South Carolina, Virginia, Arizona, California and Indiana. Please visit AmeriHealth Mercy for more information.

Covering the most important topics impacting Medicaid, AHIP's annual Medicaid conference, being held September 14-15, 2005, is the ideal forum for health insurers to share experiences, best practices and insights, interact with policymakers about specific issues important to your company and gain the tools necessary to succeed in these programs.
